When Epworth Geelong opened in July, future growth was always on the cards for the new hospital in the long-term. That future is now already a reality. With the increased provision of specialist and surgical services, in particular, in the areas of orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery and ophthalmology, the hospital is planning to open new wards before Christmas.

Epworth Geelong takes first patients on opening day

There was no honeymoon period for $277 million Epworth Geelong, which welcomed our first emergency patient before 8am on 4 July.

Herne Hill resident Mark Somerville was one of the city’s first public patients to use the renal dialysis machines, courtesy of a partnership between Epworth Geelong and Barwon Health.
